Katapult appointed to work on ambitious European destination project

International themed attraction design company Katapult, has been appointed to work on an ambitious destination project in Sweden, by The City of Malmö.

Founded in the late 18th Century, Folkets Park covers more than 60,000 square metres and attracts over 2.5 million visitors every year. The city’s ambition is to enhance the park’s attractiveness and sustainability as a regional destination in Northern Europe.

The Katapult team will be working on creating concepts for three new visitor attractions to be situated within Folkets Park, as well as working alongside LDP and AJP Consultants on the market insights and feasibility studies.

Andy Roberts, Head of the Real Estate and Street Department at Malmö City, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration with Katapult, stating, "We are excited to have Katapult and their team on board to help shape a new vision for Folkets Park. Their previous work has inspired us to think more ambitiously and incorporate the distinctive stories that make Malmö special. We're looking forward to continuing this journey together.”

Folkets Park was founded in the late 18th Century and became the first “people’s park” in Sweden in 1891. Today, Folkets Park continues to be the central meeting place of the city that hosts concerts, cultural festivals and open events with cultural organisations - as well as being host to playground equipment, restaurants, bars, miniature golf and theatres. This year, the park was home to the Eurovision Village as the city hosted the Eurovision competition for the third time.

Speaking on the appointment, Katapult’s Insights Director Robbie Jones said, “We’re hugely excited to be working with such a proactive city to enhance their tourism offer and create must-see destinations in Sweden. Their team’s passion and ambition has been inspirational and we look forward to the challenge of creating unique visitor attraction experiences that drive further desirability, footfall and spend to the city of Malmö.”
