Thorntons

Thorntons, a well loved British brand, has been making people smile with delicious chocolate gifts for over one hundred years.

Brief

Following a pitch, we were appointed to develop Thorntons for Business' Easter direct marketing campaigns targeting the automotive, catering and marketing promotion industries. As well as merchandising seasonal products and driving sales, the campaigns also reinforced Thorntons new positioning as an inclusive brand that delivers excellence, surprise, delight and value for money. From there, we won another pitch to produce the Thorntons for Business’ Christmas campaign targeted at corporate customers.

Easter Direct Mail Campaign

An Easter mailing included a box containing two Thorntons chocolates – one for the recipient and one for them to share. Recipients were prompted to witness the resultant delight with a view to achieving a similar response from customers, clients and employees. Data capture was driven through a competition offering a year's supply of Thorntons chocolate to the winner.

Automotive Direct Mail Campaign

We were also appointed to develop a campaign specifically targeting the automotive industry. The direct mail included packs of chocolates to be sent to car dealerships merchandising Thorntons chocolates as the perfect handover gift with new cars or as a thank you to service customers and after sales. The mailer used automotive terminology to attract interest and create intrigue and was personalised according to the marque offered by the recipient dealer. 

Department of Delight Christmas Campaign

Following another pitch, we worked with the Thorntons for Business' team again on their Christmas campaign to raise awareness and interest in relevant Thorntons products and services and drive sales.

In response, Katapult developed the 'Department of Delight' campaign to prompt target businesses to set up their own Department of Delight to get closer to customers and staff by using Thorntons gifts as rewards and thank yous. The campaign consisted of two phases – the first being a teaser Christmas tree mailer which was sent to key business decision makers to raise awareness of Thorntons for Business and the products and services on offer. The mailer also functioned as a desk sign to enable the recipient to merchandise their Department of Delight within their business.

A supporting website was also developed including a competition in which businesses were encouraged to upload a photo of their Department of Delight to be in with a chance to win a year's supply of Thorntons chocolates. The second phase included a product brochure mailer to merchandise the full range of products and services and drive sales of gifts for clients and employees.
