Katapult and The Eden Project collaborate to support nature-based urban regeneration group to reimagine city living

Themed attraction and experience design company, Katapult, has supported a nature-based urban regeneration organisation to bring to life their vision for city living.

Down To Earth Derby empowers residents to be part of making the city of Derby a world leader in nature-based urban regeneration with a thriving, sustainable-regenerative economy. They were chosen by the Katapult team to receive the company’s Helping Hands Project which awards charities or community interest groups with expertise provided pro-bono.

As part of the support, the Katapult team worked alongside fellow supporters, The Eden Project, to create visuals of what a nature-based city of Derby could look like. This included 3D visuals of Electric Daisy – a botanical cocktail garden bar concept, that is proposed to become a revenue generating venue to support the group’s overall aims.

Showcase event

Katapult also supported Down To Earth Derby and put on a showcase event on Tuesday 19th April at Bustler Market’s Chocolate Factory to over 300 delegates which saw Eden Project co-founder Sir Tim Smit and Down to Earth Derby Founder Jamie Quince-Starkey speak about nature-based regeneration of Derby with its community. Attendees were introduced to spectacular visuals for six city center sites including concepts for a huge wetlands, an innovative urban future farm, a marvelous rooftop garden and a botanical cocktail garden bar.  

Katapult collaborated with the Down to Earth team to create the experience & design of the showcase event, plus, we created a Virtual Reality area, allowing delegates to see the Electric Daisy in an immersive walk-through tour to help experience the vision of one of the sites.

The Helping Hands initiative was launched by Katapult in 2018 and has since provided support to UNESCO World Heritage Sites and museums. They also produced the ‘Become A Theme Park Designer’ competition for children in 2021 around the world during the Covid-19 pandemic.
